Laboratory Services
LightLab operates the longest serving independent laboratory in Australia. We provide photometric and colorimetric testing & calibration services to the lighting industry. We are accredited to ISO17025 by NATA (National Association of Testing Laboratories) and recognised internationally through ILAC.
Our laboratory performs tests in accordance with industry accepted standards, including many of the test methods published by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) & Underwriters Laboratories (UL). Testing services
LightLab is committed to helping clients and manufacturers maximize their Return-On-Investment by providing technical support and quick turn-around. We offer a diverse range of testing services for lighting sources, including the capability of accurately testing samples to 1.8 metres in length. Our core photometric testing service for commercial luminaires is to the IES LM-79 standard for Solid-State Lighting Products (SSL). Photometric and colorimetric distribution data is acquired using a rotating mirror goniophotometer / goniospectroradiometer, a 2 m integrating sphere is available for additional measurements.

Calibration services
LightLab operates a NATA accredited calibration laboratory. Calibration capability includes responsivity of light meters*, luminance meters*, UVA detectors*, phototherapy meters including bilirubin meters. The laboratory maintains a number of reference detectors that are traceable to the SI system of units to enable the capability.
For example, a luxmeter is calibrated against a reference illuminance detector to determine its performance by using a transfer standard such as an incandescent illuminant A or LED LV41 source. The results of the calibration are recorded in a NATA endorsed report. Additional information in the report includes the meter response ratio to a set of RGB filters, the IR response, the spectral response and (optionally) the cosine response.
